Department of Non-Metallic Materials

The department carries out research activities in the following areas:

  • Development of advanced non-metallic inorganic (especially ceramic) materials for demanding industrial applications where high mechanical, thermal and chemical resistance is required
  • Modern waste-free technologies for chemical processing of mineral raw materials, e.g. design of amorphous SiO2 synthesis from silica wastes
  • Complex processing of Slovak magnesite into products with high added value
  • Production, properties and application of refractory materials
  • Study of corrosion of refractory ceramic materials by melt or gaseous environment in metallurgical, cement and power thermal aggregates
  • Non-traditional applications of mineral raw materials, e.g. removal of heavy metals from contaminated groundwater using magnesite
