Study programme
Materials science
Our goal is to provide quality education with innovative learning elements and a strong emphasis on the implementation of the latest knowledge and expertise in the field of metallic and non-metallic materials. List of fields of study and study programmes of the Faculty of Materials, Metallurgy and Recycling of the Technical University of Košice for full-time study in the academic year 2024/2025 at the Institute of Materials:
- Degree of university study: 3. grade, Doctoral (PhD.)
- Field of study: Mechanical Engineering
- Study programme: Material science
- Form of study: Full-time/Part-time
Characteristics of the Graduate:
The graduate understands the relationships between the physicochemical nature of the structure and properties of different materials and is able to manage their changes. The student is able to predict the service life of materials based on knowledge of the physicochemical and mechanical degradation processes of materials. He applies modern structural and phase analyses of materials, analysis of their properties and degradation in the development and research of materials. Actively acquires, critically evaluates and analyses new knowledge and information, and applies it in solving projects of materials production, research and development. Within the framework of research and development, independently formulates new hypotheses and strategies, carries out own scientific and professional activities, assesses and modifies them, interprets their results with regard to the long-term impact in the field, social, scientific and ethical aspects. Can design, implement and improve research, development and innovation procedures in the field of materials and their processing. Demonstrate the contribution of own original research to the advancement of scientific knowledge in the field by formulating and publishing research and development results internationally in a foreign language. Independently manages the tasks of research and development of materials, leads and coordinates their research teams. He/she is also able to communicate the acquired knowledge in an appropriate way within the educational process in professional subjects in the field of materials.

New study programme
Materials
- Degree of university study: 3. grade, Doctoral (PhD.)
- Field of study: Mechanical Engineering
- Study programme: Materials
- Form of study: Full-time/Part-time
Characteristics of the Graduate:
The programme of study provides graduates with the ability to understand the relationships between the chemical and physical nature of the phase composition, structure and properties of selected materials from an enormous range of metallic, non-metallic structural and functional materials and composites. Based on these skills, the graduate can develop innovative technological processes for the production and processing of selected materials, find appropriate applications for them and predict the degradation of their properties and the extent of their service life. Education in this study programme gives graduates the disposition to independently manage tasks of research and development of materials, to lead and coordinate teams of researchers in research and development and innovation projects and to participate in the educational process in the field with the necessary professional insight.
